Garbage Disposal Problems

May 11, 2015  |   by Admin

When your garbage disposal stops running, it can be a sign of a number of problems. Some disposals have a safety switch that shuts the motor off when it gets too hot or is overworked. Sometimes the disposal will “jam” and stop turning because a piece of debris is lodged in the blades, such as a coin or a piece of bone. Care should be taken in working on disposals because the blades are very powerful and could cause serious injury to hands and tools. It is recommended that you call an experienced plumber to perform any work.

Customers frequently complain of smells from their garbage disposal. There are several easy treatments that might eliminate this problem. One method is to pour a box of baking soda down the disposal while it is on and while the water is running. Another option is to use a cup of automatic dishwasher detergent (such as Cascade) in place of the baking soda. If neither of those helps, Precision Plumbing will be happy to send a technician out to give you a free, no-obligation estimate.
